Winton Woods Uses Dominant Third Quarter to Claim Second Straight Girls District Championship

| By:

MASON, Ohio — Winton Woods seized control out of halftime and never looked back, riding a decisive third-quarter surge to a 58-36 victory in the Girls District Championship on Saturday at Mason.

After trading baskets through a tightly contested first half, the Warriors separated themselves with a strong third quarter that broke the game open. Winton Woods turned a slim edge into a comfortable lead with sustained defensive pressure and more consistent execution on the offensive end, holding the opposing offense in check while steadily building the margin.

Whitley Davis led the way for Winton Woods with 18 points, pacing the offense and providing a steady scoring presence as the Warriors pulled away. Strawberry Blankumsee added 14 points, giving Winton Woods a reliable second option and helping fuel the key third-quarter push that shifted the momentum firmly in the Warriors' favor.

Erianna Thomas finished with 11 points, attacking the basket and contributing during the Warriors' decisive run out of the locker room. Trenity Armstrong chipped in 6 points, while LaLa Thorton scored 5, giving Winton Woods important depth scoring as the Warriors extended the lead and controlled the second half.

Aunna Dancy and Sydney Davis each added 2 points, rounding out a balanced offensive effort that produced 58 total points. Just as important was the defensive performance after halftime, as Winton Woods limited the opposition to only 36 points for the game and tightened up on the perimeter to prevent any sustained comeback attempt.

With the district championship win, the Warriors advance with momentum after demonstrating the ability to stay composed in a close first half and then dominate the game out of the break. The combination of balanced scoring, third-quarter execution and defensive intensity highlighted the performance as Winton Woods moves on to the next stage of postseason play.

The Lady Warriors will now play Tuesday evening against Seton at Princeton High School with a 7:30 tip off in the regional semi finals.
