Winton Woods Races Past St. Ursula 75-12 in Girls District Semifinal

| By:
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Winton Woods girls basketball surged out to a 20-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back Wednesday night, rolling to a 75-12 victory in district tournament play at Lakota West.
The Warriors used suffocating defense and balanced scoring to put the game out of reach early. Winton Woods held its opponent to just three points in the opening eight minutes, turning turnovers and missed shots into transition opportunities on the other end. By halftime, the Warriors had fully seized control and maintained their advantage throughout the second half, cruising into the next round.
Strawberry Blankumsee led Winton Woods with a game-high 18 points, going 8-of-12 from the field to pace the offense. Her efficiency in the lane and in the midrange helped the Warriors build and extend their early cushion, as she consistently finished around the basket and capitalized on defensive breakdowns.
The Warriors' guard play set the tone as well. Whitley Davis added 15 points and 4 assists, helping initiate the offense and find open teammates in transition and in the half court. LaLa Thorton matched that playmaking effort with 8 points and 4 assists, giving Winton Woods multiple ball-handling and scoring options on the perimeter that the opponent struggled to contain.

Winton Woods' depth was on full display, with nine different players entering the scoring column. Micala Reese contributed 12 points, attacking the rim and providing another reliable option offensively. Bernice Lawson and Thorton each finished with 8 points, while Aunna Dancy chipped in 6. Sophia Cruver, Jeynaba Diak and Sydney Davis added 4, 2 and 2 points, respectively, as the Warriors continued to apply pressure deep into the lineup.
Defensively, the Warriors limited clean looks and controlled the glass, holding the opponent to just 12 points for the game. The early 20-3 margin set the tone, and Winton Woods continued to contest shots, jump passing lanes and turn stops into fast-break chances, preventing any opportunity for a comeback.
With the dominant 75-12 win, Winton Woods advances in district play carrying momentum from a complete team performance. Behind a decisive first-quarter surge, efficient shooting from Blankumsee and balanced contributions across the roster, the Warriors positioned themselves as a strong contender moving deeper into the postseason bracket.

The Warriors advance to the District Final Saturday February 28th against the winner of Little Miami/ Edgewood. The game will be at Mason Middle school with a 11:00 AM tip off.
